Apparently the names were taken from the back of a picture, starting with the back row. Usually that row contained the "bad" boys and girls. They were commonly made to stand up against the wall with the worst kid relegated to the most to-the-left-position of the photograpaher. That way the photog could keep an eye out for fidgitting and spitballs.

I was there from 55-59 or 60 and Hazel does sound fimelier but I cant say for sure.
I was there from 1957 to 1964. Played hooky a lot and was failed a lot.Lol Harry Carmine was the principal. I remember Mrs. Gray, Mrs. Wallace, Mrs. Funnel, Mrs. Culpepper and Mrs. Newsome. Joe Winstead (Leonard "Bozo" Winstead's brother).
